Use of DCB ceramic PCB

A DCB ceramic PCB is a type of circuit board technology used in high-power and high-temperature applications. DCB ceramic PCB is used when a high copper thickness is required (140–350 mm). The copper is bonded to the ceramic substrate on one or both sides using a high-temperature oxidation process. It is designed to provide efficient thermal management and electrical isolation for electronic devices.

DBC is often a two-layer process, where the back of the substrate is a solid and unfeatured sheet of copper and where the top copper layer is structured using chemical etching and is performed to develop the electrical circuit traces.

DCB ceramic PCBs consist of a ceramic substrate that is metalized with a layer of copper, which is directly bonded to the ceramic substrate using various methods such as high-temperature brazing or direct copper laser sintering. This direct bonding ensures excellent thermal conductivity between the copper traces and the ceramic substrate, allowing for effective heat dissipation.

DCB ceramic PCBs have high mechanical strength, mechanically stable shapes that have the highest strength, fine thermal conductivity, and excellent electrical isolation. They come with excellent thermal cycling capabilities up to 50,000 cycles and high reliability that can be etched to various layouts like a normal FR4 PCB.

The advantages of Ceramic PCBs are:

  • It has Higher thermal conductivity.
  • They have a higher thermal expansion coefficient.
  • It comes with a stronger and lower-resistance metal film and an alumina ceramic circuit board.
  • They also have good solderability on the substrate, which is good, and use high temperatures.
  • Comes with good insulation and low high-frequency loss.

DCB ceramic PCBs have a thermal expansion coefficient that is close to that of silicon chips. The best technology provides you with advanced, high-precision printed circuit boards such as heavy copper, mixed layer, high TG, HDI, high frequency, impedance-controlled boards such as Aluminum PCB, Copper PCB, and so on.
